Orphan is a 2009 American horror film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. The film centers on a couple who, after the death of their unborn child, adopt a young girl who is hiding a dark secret behind her sweet façade. Orphan was produced by Joel Silver and Susan Downey of Dark Castle Entertainment and Leonardo DiCaprio of Appian Way Productions.[2] The film was released theatrically in the United States on July 24, 2009. Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John Coleman (Peter Sarsgaard) are experiencing strains in their marriage after Kate's third child was stillborn. The loss is particularly hard on Kate, who is still recovering from a drinking habit that cost her her job. They adopt Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman), a 9-year-old Russian girl, from the local orphanage. While Kate and John's deaf-mute daughter Max (Aryana Engineer) embraces Esther almost immediately, their son Daniel (Jimmy Bennett) is somewhat less welcoming.

Evan keeps to himself, almost without affect. He's 30, a former foster child, living alone, writing suicide notes for people. He attends a client's funeral and meets Charlotte, the client's sister. She pursues Evan; he's silent about his real work and invents a friendship with the brother. About the same time, Evan starts working with Abel, a new client, a composer of phone-waiting music who's depressed. Evan confides in Abel about Charlotte as she begins to draw him out. Crises await the self-contained Evan: his relationship with Charlotte is based on a lie, and his incipient friendship with Abel is headed toward suicide. Are more dead ends ahead?

Plot: Jake, a rookie private eye, spends each day minding a small private investigation office and filing papers. Dying for more action Jake jumps at the chance to be in on a big score. His boss outlines the heist that will make the whole team rich and tells them about a kidnapped computer hacker who downloaded something he shouldn't have. Therein lies the caper; rescue the hacker and retrieve the downloaded booty for themselves. But things don't always go as planned. The heist turns deadly when a hidden agenda is revealed leading to an explosive climax of betrayal and revenge.
